The Mall at Shimla
Shimla, one of the popular summer retreats of India, is also widely renowned for its Victorian architecture. Besides the marvelous architecture the city also offers some gems of destinations that are a must-see if your ever find yourself in Shimla. Here are a few major tourist attractions that form the core of any travel itinerary to Shimla.
The first and foremost major attraction of Shimla is the Mall road. Sitting in the heart of the town it is one place you simply can’t ignore. It is a major commercial area of Shimla with tourists flocking to the place to indulge in some shopping therapy.
The next popular attraction of Shimla is the Shimla Ridge, located in the heart of the city it can easily be touted as the major artery of Shimla’s commercial area. The ridge connects major places of Shimla like Lakkar Bazaar, Mall, Scandal Point, Jakhoo Hill etc. Besides being a major connecting point, the ridge is also the hub of all cultural activities in Shimla.
Thirdly, Annandale situated some 2 km from the center of the city is a popular picnic spot of the region and also a major tourist attraction.
Fourthly, one really interesting place of Shimla is the Prospect Hill located at a height of 2155 meters; it acts as a great vantage point along with offering a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of a city life. The hill is also home to a sacred Hindu Temple dedicated to Goddess Kamna Devi.
Fifthly, another very popular tourist attraction of Shimla is the Shimla State and Museum Library. The museum is known for its extensive collection of ancient sculptures, paintings, coins and photographs along with an extensive collection of art work of the extinct Pahari miniature art form.

Seventh, Viceregal Lodge located at the top of Observatory hill it is now home to the Institute of Advanced Studies. The Viceregal Lodge is a must see attraction due to the sheer magnificence of the British Architecture.
Another very important attraction is the Viceregal and Botanical Garden also known as the ‘Rashtrapati Niwas’ which is a spectacular six storey building surrounded by well manicured lawns and lavish gardens.
Ninth, Glen a dense forest and also a popular picnic spot, it is a must see attraction of Shimla. Once referred to as the play ground of Shimla the forest now offers a tranquil place to enjoy a bit of the natural surroundings.
Lastly among the several must see attraction of Shimla, Tara Devi temple is of major significance. This sacred Hindu Temple sitting atop a hill also offers a panoramic view of the city.
