Welsh Castles in Snowdonia

This area of North Wales has its own share of historic castles, some of which were built by the English and some built by the esteemed Welsh Prince, ‘Llywelyn ap Iorwerth’ (or Llywelyn the Great) during the 13th century. These were built as strongholds to protect against English invaders.

So to make sure you visit a real Welsh castle in the Snowdonia region, add these to your list: Criccieth Castle; Dolbadarn Castle; Llanberis; Dolwyddelan Castle near Betws y Coed; or Castell y. These represent some of the best examples of Welsh castles in this region.

Mount Snowdon

Why not take a train ride up to the summit of Snowdon on the Snowdon Mountain Railway and enjoy the amazing views with a less exhausting way of travelling? Then you can enjoy refreshments in the new visitor’s centre and café at the top of the mountain.

King Arthur’s Labyrinth in Corris

Although King Arthur was King of the Britons, he is said to have had strong links to Wales. Even his name, Arthur Pendragon, which is Anglo-Welsh, gives us a clue to this.

There has been much talk of legends connecting Arthur and his mystical wizard Merlin to the Snowdonia area, so if you want to discover more about Arthur and the stories that surround him and his life, take a trip along to the King Arthur’s Labyrinth in Corris. There you can explore and ride the underground boat through ancient caverns, while listening to stories of King Arthur and his connection with this area.
