There is a unique wonder of the world isolated in the middle of the desert in Turkmenistan. It is called “The Gates of Hell”, also known as “Hell’s Gate”. The Gates of Hell is actually a giant hole which is burning an eternal flame. The place was discovered in 1971, when a drilling company accidentally drilled into an underground cave consisting a lot of natural gas. The drilling caused the cave to collapse and made a big hole in the middle of the desert. One of the geologists decided to set the cavern on fire to get rid of the natural gas, and the fire has been burning ever since. The crater’s beautiful eternal flame has become a great attraction for tourists to see.

You can spend your holiday in Davarza by visiting The Gates of Hell. It is located about 260 kilometers North of Ashgabat, the capital city of Turkmenistan. This huge burning crater is an amazing site to witness. The crater is best seen at night, when the red fire from the crater is glowing beautifully. At night, the fire is visible from miles away. Be careful though, you will not find any safety measure in the crater, so you would be better not stay too close to it. In addition to the burning crater, you can also visit two other craters nearby. These two craters are not on fire. One of them is a crater with green water which bubbling a toxic gas. The other crater is filled with mud bubbling up gas. You should be fully prepared before you get there, as the food and accommodation around the area are very limited.

Due to its remote location, it is rather hard to find a transportation to get there. You can only get there by car because there is no other transportation option, such as bus, provided by the government. For your own safety, you may want to hire a local driver from Ashgabat who have a good off-road driving skills and knowledge of the area. A car will get you there in approximately 4 hours. You will not find any food source or hotel near the crater, as the place is too isolated from anywhere. To accommodate these, you may want to arrange a small tour with the locals in Ashgabat. They will help you to bring foods and supplies for you, and set a camp near the crater if you are going to spend the night there.
If you want to taste a new experience for your holiday, you will not want to skip The Gates of Hell in the middle of the desert in Davarza. Its eternal flame is a beauty to watch at night and the journey there is a fascinating experience. The only downside is that you will not find any luxury while spending your holiday in Davarza.
