Canals of Venice

Canals of Venice

When it comes to have holiday in Italy it means you have a chance to see the beautiful Venice that is surrounded by water all over and is located on the north of Italy. The capital of Venice is Veneto. It is commonly known as the city of lovers, water and also the city of bridges—how’s romantic is that—It is spread over 118 Islands, not very big in size. Yes indeed, you should have a trip to Venice not only to enjoy the canals of Venice but also for love celebration!

Venice is very famous in the worlds because of its canals, the canals of Venice. The city has in total 150 canals and the most important canal of Venice is called the Grand Canal. It is responsible for managing the traffic in water by corridor management. Instead of visiting any place by transportation means of roads or air, it is very common to find water buses and water taxi. It seems that the people here live in a different land and world altogether. No wonder many tourists that have holiday in Italy will have a trip to Venice and visit the canals of Venice.

During the day time, the city is very much crowded with visitors all across the world trying to experience love and romance in the city. Narrow yet beautiful canals, bridges streets give a very different feel of the place. Anyone who visits this place immediately falls in love with it. The nights on the other hand are quiet and peacefully. Who says that Paris is the one and only city of love?

In Venice, motor boats are not allowed to travel in small canals that are narrow, windy and lead to the old city. The city has almost 400 bridges and the Grand Canal cuts the city equally into two proportionate halves from the north to the south. The total length of the Grand Canal is three kilometers. One of the constant threats that the city is experiencing is the air, wind and water pollution over and above the natural disaster like the flood and weakening infrastructure of the building.

When Venice was originally settled by villagers from the mainland in the 5th century, the canals were essentially the naturally occurring inlets and channels between the marshy islands of the Lagoon of Venice (Laguna Venezia). Since the canals are the main circulatory routes of the city, a great deal of maintenance is constantly being done on them. Canals are shallow – no more than 10-15 ft deep in many places – and are defined by spaces between the buildings that crowd their banks. They must be dredged regularly to remove the silt and sand that is deposited in the canals by the frequent high tides that can flood the city (also known as “acqua alta, or “high water”).  So are you ready to have holiday in Italy and to have a trip to Venice and celebrate your love in the magic canals of Venice? Enjoy!

acropolis in athens

Travel to Acropolis of Athens

The Acropolis hill so called the “Sacred Rock” of Athens is the most important site of the city and constitutes one of the most recognizable monuments of the world. It is the most significant reference point of ancient Greek culture, as well as the symbol of the city of Athens itself as it represent the apogee of artistic development in the 5th century BC. During Perikles’ Golden Age, ancient Greek civilization was represented in an ideal way on the hill and some of the architectural masterpieces of the period were erected on its ground. That’s why the holiday in Greece is about trip to Acropolis, Athens.

Another interesting place about going to trip to Acropolis where you can visit during your holiday in Greece, it is the Propylae: the monumental entrances to the sacred area dedicated to Athena, the patron goddess of the city. Built by the architect Mnesicles with Pentelic marble, their design was avant-garde.

Still talking about the holiday in Greece and trip to Acropolis, we move to the south-west of the Propylaea, on a rampart protecting the main entrance to the Acropolis is the Ionian temple of Apteros Nike, which is now being restored. The first habitation remains on the Acropolis date from the Neolithic period. Over the centuries, the rocky hill was continuously used either as a cult place or as a residential area or both. The inscriptions on the numerous and precious offerings to the sanctuary of Athena (marble korai, bronze and clay statuettes and vases) indicate that the cult of the city’s patron goddess was established as early as the Archaic period (650-480 BC).

Now let me tell you the story about the legend of Athenian. According to a popular myth, Athena and Poseidon competed for the honor of being the patron of the city. The myth describes how the gods provided gifts in order to gain the people’s favor. Poseidon hit the Acropolis rock with his trident at the place where the Erechtheion was built later, and from the wounded earth a majestic horse arose as a gift to the citizens. Poseidon, the god of the sea and of earthquakes (of which Greece enjoys many) eventualy replaced the prehistoric Erechtheus, although Erechtheus continued to be worshiped alongside Athena on the Acropolis.

Athena is the name of an important goddess for the Greeks, the goddess of wisdom, a goddess of arts and crafts (agriculture, navigation, spinning, weaving, and needlework), the favorite daughter of her father Zeus, and, as a war goddess with a focus on strategy more than bloodshed, an active participant in the Trojan War. The city however was named after Athena, because she gave Athens the gift of the olive tree, providing oil, food, and wood. Interesting isn’t it?

Last but not least, you can take a tour or wander up there yourself but during the summer, whatever you do, unless it is overcast, go early or late in the day. It can get very hot up there and gasping for breath can take away from your ability to marvel at the greates of all archaeological sites.

holiday in ischia

Romantic Vacation in Ischia

Ischia is the most beautiful and biggest island in the Gulf of Naples, and one of the most famous seaside and touristic spa centers of Italy and the world. There are main reasons why we do suggest you to have the most romantic vacation is Ischia, first of all its unequalled natural beauty, secondly, its all-year-round mild climate, and for its thermal water, and lastly for its modern tourist facilities and hotels.

The island does not have at all that typical appearance of a large arid rock in the middle of the sea.Even the peaks of the smallest rocks along the coastline are covered in rich vegetation. Ischia’s ‘greenness’ can even be found in the stones like the famous ‘green tufa’ found in the Forio area, whose stones make up the beautiful and unique ‘parracine’ (dry stone walls) which punctuate the vineyards’ thick green expanses. However, the greenery does not hide the natural beauty of the lay of the land. Ischia has a very varied landscape, including mountains, isolated hills, majestic promontories, slopes, plains, and brows of hills, all of which can easily be seen from the magnificent terrace of the Soccorso in Forio from which the incredible beauty of Mount Epomeo can be enjoyed.

Ischia is an incredibly beautiful island laying under a blue sky in the middle of a still unspoilt sea, held up by the fires of its dormant volcano (Epomeo), however, the natural beauty of Ischia does not finish there. Everything from the sea to the mountain— including its harbors, the small bays, it’s convenient beaches and ports, the high rockface along its coast, the vegetation, the variety of the plant life, the pine trees and the myriads of multi-colored flowers – make Ischia one of the most beautiful islands of one of the most beautiful countries in the world.

The best time for having the most romantic vacation in Ischia is from April to October, however, the weather in Ischia is always changing and visitors should expect both sunshine and rain—whatever the season. Summer, the main tourist season, combines long, hot days with lengthy evenings. Winter can be bitterly cold and wet, with short daylight hours.

Ischia is a real mix of extraordinary landscapes. There are thermal waters, natural springs, goldmines, warm sea, sandy beaches, forested hillsides and an extinct volcano rising to over 780m. Famous for its beautiful gardens and thermal parks for mineral mud treatments, it is known as ‘the island of eternal youth’. Ischias thermal springs have been renowned since ancient times and have been tested by many Italian and foreign scientists, for their therapeutic features. Not only are the thermal waters used in baths and thermal gardens, but they can found in small springs on some beaches and streams of spouting that feature hot water gushing into the sea as well as steam spouts (fumaroles) with gases gushing from cracks in the soil. Not only you could have the romantic vacation in Ischia, but you also know the secret of the eternal youth from Ischia.
